DAVID A. APPLEBAUM is an equity shareholder of Friedman Schuman, P.C. and chairman of the firm's Wealth Preservation and Estate Planning practice. He concentrates his practice on estate planning, business transactions and real estate transactions.
David has 30 years of experience in working with individuals, professionals, business owners and health care providers. He regularly works with entrepreneurs, closely held business owners and real estate owners, providing tax and succession planning services and general business advice.
In his business practice, David counsels clients from initial entity formation through sale of the business, including retirement and tax planning. David provides assistance with developing and executing a business plan, assistance with partnership, shareholder and operating agreements and buy-sell agreements, obtaining bank or private equity financing, acquisition of business or investment property, business acquisitions and mergers, employee compensation programs, adding and terminating key employees and/or partners, life insurance matters, business divorces, transfers of a business interest to family members, death of a key employee and/or partner and sale of the business entity. The accounting and tax background of David is an integral component of his clients long term business development and success.
In David’s estate planning and wealth accumulation practice, David is frequently asked to counsel clients on contentious matters. He is a trusted advisor in all aspects of estate planning, wealth preservation and retirement planning, and often works with other non-legal advisors to provide comprehensive tax, ownership structuring, estate planning and estate and trust administration services. David also counsels executors and trustees, and provides legal services for complex estates and trusts providing solutions to a wide range of family, tax and legal issues. Throughout life cycle events, David is committed to help clients maintain family harmony, build efficient businesses, and preserve wealth.
David is a member of the Planned Giving Advisory Committee of the Abington Health Foundation (Abington Hospital), the Professional Advisory Council for the Abramson Center for Jewish Life (Horsham, PA) and the Planned Giving Committee for Congregation Beth Or (Maple Glen, PA). He is a frequent presenter of innovative tax planning strategies for these organizations.
