Drunk driver kills firefighter en route to fire

Pennsylvania residents who need to rely on emergency responders should be able to know that these important helpers can get to those who need help safely. Sadly, even those people who put others first can be at risk of being injured due to the actions of other negligent drivers.

Such was the tragic situation for one firefighter in Harrisburg who was killed in a hit-and-run accident caused by a drunk driver on a Friday evening. The man was en route to a fire in the area and reports indicate he was travelling at a normal speed. As he moved in his vehicle down the road, another vehicle failed to stop at an intersection and instead ran right into the vehicle driven by the firefighter. The fireman was taken to the hospital and the next day it was announced that he died from his injuries.

The at-fault driver left the scene of the accident but took herself to a hospital where officers connected her to the accident despite her providing inaccurate information. She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and charged with many offenses including driving under the influence, aggravated assualt by a motor vehicle and driving without a license. It is not known if her charges have changed once the fireman died.

People who are injured or lose loved ones due to the negligence of others deserve help. Talking to an attorney may provide insight into how to seek compensation at these times.
