Common places you could have a slip-and-fall accident

No matter where you go in Pennsylvania, the risk of you falling and injuring yourself is always there. When property owners and their staff fail to take steps to keep their buildings hazard free and warn their guests about potential issues that could cause them harm, the risk of slip-and-fall accidents increases significantly.

You should remain on guard for accident dangers wherever you go. Here are some common places that slip-and-fall accidents tend to occur.

Grocery stores

Grocery stores and supermarkets are high-traffic places where spills, pathway obstructions and debris are very common. Employees must continuously monitor the premises to ensure the immediate cleaning of all spills and obstructions. If wet floors and slippery conditions are unavoidable in certain areas, staff must notify shoppers and workers of the dangers with signs and announcements. They should also block the areas off until the floors and pathways are safe.

Nursing homes

Many nursing home residents have a higher risk of falling due to medical conditions and old age. Their nursing homes should have safety equipment in place to make it easier for them to travel about without slipping, falling and hurting themselves. In addition to having handrails and slip-resistant mats in slippery places, such as the bathrooms and entrances, they should also have proper lighting in every entryway, hallway and other places where it is hard to see. They should also keep chairs and other items out of the walkways and have rails on the beds, toilets and showers/bathtubs for support when necessary. Staff should always be present to offer assistance to their patients.

There are things you can do to reduce your risk of falls and injuries, such as wearing the right shoes and paying attention to your surroundings. Property owners must also do their part to keep their floors and walking surfaces reasonably safe from hazards or they risk a lawsuit for any accidents and injuries that happen.
