Elderly man killed by DUI driver

Pennsylvania residents who lose loved ones due to the negligent choices and actions of other people have every reason to hope that some sort of justice can be served. This may come in the form of criminal prosecution or even civil compensation depending upon the situation.

The friends and family members of a man from West Reading may well be among those seeking such justice today after the death of the man who was 86 years old at the hands of a drugged and speeding driver. The deadly accident actually happened a couple of months ago when a driver on a stretch of Route 183, a two-lane highway, tried to speed pass another car and in the process hit the elderly man who was driving in the oncoming lane of traffic.

Two other vehicles ended up being involved in the crash including the one that was being passed. That vehicle also ended up striking the elderly man's car. The at-fault driver has since been charged with a slew of criminal offenses including driving under the influence of a controlled substance, aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and more. The defendant is 42 years old and reports also indicate he did not have a valid driver's license at the time of the wreck.

Certainly criminal justice after a tragic incident like this can help people who are grieving. It may also be helpful for survivors in Pennsylvania to consult with an attorney to learn if they have options for civil compensation as well.
