Reckless riding leads to biker’s death

It is not uncommon for motorcyclists to take to the open roads of Pennsylvania’s landscape and enjoy the freedom and adrenaline of biking. However, bikers must be responsible, vigilant and careful to avoid putting their own life at risk or endangering the lives of other motorists. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycle accidents amounted to over 4,500 fatalities in 2014.

Recently, an 18-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in an accident on Pennsylvania’s Route 22. The young man had been riding with a group of friends when several of the bikers created what law enforcement described as a stunt competition in the middle of the street. Bikers were participating in dangerous activities including riding wheelies and racing when the young man lost control of his bike.

While the motorcycle sustained very little noticeable damage, the rider was thrown off and experienced fatal blunt force trauma. The young man was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Officials pieced together a timeline of events based off of witness reports. Authorities could not say whether or not the deceased biker was participating in dangerous activities, but evidence suggested he may have collided with a barrier and a road sign, which could have resulted in his being thrown from the bike.

When dealing with the tragic loss of a loved one, additional support may help to relieve some emotional distress. In motorcycle accidents where serious injuries or fatalities are consequences of negligence, distraction or carelessness, it may be necessary to enlist the help of an attorney.
