A question I am frequently asked is: What effect will the virus have on my legal case?
All of the Pennsylvania State Courts and the associated Federal Courts are working under a State of Emergency. For the moment, the Courts are effectively closed, deadlines are waived and Court business regarding civil litigation is effectively at a standstill. We hope that this delay is not too long, but at this moment it is uncertain.
For cases that have been filed, there will need to be new conferences to schedule new deadlines. For that reason, there will likely be a slight delay in all filed cases.
For cases that have not yet been filed, we are moving to file the cases promptly. However, based on the above, it is expected there will be some delay in the usual order of civil practice for the foreseeable future.
We will keep you informed as to the new “status quo” changes.
